Cerebral Palsy Claims
What is
Cerebral Palsy?
Cerebral palsy is a general term
covering a number neurological conditions that affect a child's
movement and coordination.
Neurological conditions affect the brain
and nervous system.
Cerebral palsy is caused by damage to
the brain, which normally occurs before, during or soon after
birth. Known possible causes of cerebral palsy include:
-
infection in early pregnancy
-
a difficult or premature birth
-
bleeding in the baby’s brain
-
abnormal brain development in the
baby
In the UK, around two children in every
1000 suffer from cerebral palsy. About 10% of sufferers can
attribute their physical disability to birth complications. In
some cases this is due to poor management or medical negligence
which can lead to someone developing cerebral palsy. In these
circumstances in may be possible to claim for medical
negligence. To succeed with a cerebral palsy compensation claim
we will need to prove that the doctors or midwives did not meet
the standard required of them during the birthing process and
that those failings caused the birth injury.
